Using laboratory animals, Prof. Yair Reisner developed the concept of “megadose” bone marrow transplants. The approach, developed further in collaboration with physicians from the University of Perugia, makes it possible to overcome rejection and perform transplants from mismatched donors.
Application
More than 400 patients around the world, most of them with advanced leukemia, have received mismatched bone marrow transplants based on the Weizmann-Perugia method.
